This week, we began playing with these tools to see how we might use them. This was SUPER fun! Many of us even wanted to stay in during recess to continue exploring. Next week, we'll be using our thinking, collaboration, and communication skills to create something new and original that is functional. We'll be able to use cardboard or other recycled materials, Lego, KNex, or any other construction-like materials we can get our hands on. Stay tuned for our Maker Space sharing!
As you know, we focus regularly in class on core competencies such as critical and creative thinking. Thanks to a very generous teacher in the district, Mrs. Lim, we have the privilege of borrowing several sets of Little Bits circuits for a few weeks. April 10th was Jump Rope for Heart at our school. To celebrate our school's efforts and practice a different physical skill, we have also been working on skipping routines in P.E. class. Here are some photos of our efforts! We worked for 1-2 weeks on our routines at various times throughout the day. Thanks to those who have shared below! Learning Intention: I can create a skipping routine and present it with my group. Criteria: - Routine is a minimum of 16 counts of skipping - Routine is synchronized (people and music) - Everyone participates actively in the routine We have been working hard on 3D paper relief art as a way if exploring different media in Visual Art. Using only white paper, we had to create one simple 3D sculpture. The tricky part is... we have to make 50 variations in total and arranging them in a creative way to make a relief sculpture. Below are some samples of our work so far... our projects should be completed later this week!
Recently, we've been learning how species can be part of a population, a community, and an ecosystem. We've explored the roles of organisms, food webs, and how biotic and abiotic elements interact in an ecosystem. This week, we took a trip to Burn's Bog to learn more about this unique type of ecosystem. Most of us didn't know much about a bog - acidity makes it different than many of our other local ecosystems and it contributes greatly to our air quality. We also learned how the bog has changed over time and how the highway has impacted the bog's organisms. It was a great day outdoors as we got to explore the bog with a guided tour in French.
This week, we took a field trip to Campbell Valley Park. Our goal was simply to spend time enjoying the outdoors and staying active by walking the trails. Thanks to our parent volunteers who joined us! Here are some photos of our beautiful afternoon outside...
Today, we said goodbye to our student teacher, Mme. Jabloune. She's been with us for 5-6 weeks teaching Math and a mini unit on Poetry. It's been a great experience for us to have a different teacher with a different French accent; it's a neat way to help us prepare for all of the changes to come in high school!
Mme. Jabloune was sad to go, but she brought in some snacks on her last day to say "merci" for being such a great class. We'll miss her too! |
