The last couple of weeks have been devoted to learning about area in Math. We've connected our knowledge about a rectangle to a parallelogram and were able to discover the formula on our own by exploring how one shape can be transformed into the other. Then we realized that two triangles make up a parallelogram, so our learning just kept connecting... Following a few days of practice, we were presented the challenge of building a rectangular pyramids and calculating the surface area. A few of us made some mistakes in our shape, but the end result of learning about area was still the same :) From there, we moved back to circles to discover through a series of questions the formula for area of circles. Quite a complicated concept, but we made it! Our knowledge of parallelograms helped us a lot. We are now comfortable solving most problems involving area of these shapes.
