We finished our unit on area a couple of weeks ago and look at some of the results! With parallelograms, triangles, and circles we made scale drawings of our dream bedrooms with furniture from IKEA. Since then, we've moved on to integers. First, we learned how zero pairs can help us represent integers in multiple ways. We can add as many zero pairs to a number as we want without changing its value. We've also learned how to use integer tiles to help us add and subtract positive and negative numbers. Most of us found that this was a helpful strategy; it made it clear why subtracting a negative number from a positive number - for example, (+3) - (-6) = (+9) - can actually make a number BIGGER! Overall, we're feeling pretty successful in this Math unit. Next, we will be learning how to apply our knowledge of positive and negative numbers to algebraic expressions and equations.
