Below is a video of a 12-year old app developer that many of us found inspiring. We felt it sent a valuable message that age is not a limitation and that if we are passionate about making something happen, then we can.
This week, we introduced the concept of Genius Hour or Passion Projects. We spent some time watching and discussing inspirational videos that encourage us to take risks, learn new things, and share with others. Once a week, we will be taking one hour to learn about something that interests us or represents our passion. Some of us may finish a project in 2 sessions, others may take 6 or 7. This is all ok! Whenever we feel we are ready, we will share our learning with the class, and the timing may be different for everyone. These projects will not be formally assessed, but of course there will be lots of learning involved! We will also be practicing our French skills every time we share. Below is a video of a 12-year old app developer that many of us found inspiring. We felt it sent a valuable message that age is not a limitation and that if we are passionate about making something happen, then we can. The last video below showed us that failure is not a bad thing. Most of us already know this because we talk about how making mistakes and learning from feedback helps us improve in class all the time. However, the girls' story is particularly inspiring because it showed us that BIG mistakes are ok too. The product is not always what is most important, it's the process. We look forward to exploring our passions and beginning our Genius Hour journeys after Spring Break!
