Upon entering Rogers Arena, we were in awe of just how impactful the day would be. Lights, loot bags, t-shirts, and popcorn abounded as did live concerts by Hedley, Down With Webster, and Avril Lavigne. This was all very exciting - admittedly, our attention was dedicated to sunglasses and light up bracelets for about an hour - and we danced, sang, and cheered for much of the day. However, the most impactful part of the experience was definitely the speakers.
We heard from a ton of inspirational people, including Spencer West, Molly Burke, Martin Luther King III, and Romeo Dallaire as well as kids who are already making a difference in their communities. Their stories touched on topics such as bullying, hunger, homelessness, racism, and child soldiers among many others. Their messages were profound and we really were inspired to stand together and be the generation of change. We were reminded that small actions add up to making a big difference in the world and that we must act in order to make the world the place we want it to be. Many of us referred to this experience as life-changing...
We hope to take what we learned at WE Day and use it to create change in our school, our community, and our world. Watch for our Sunrise Me to We Leadership Team's initiatives throughout the year. Together, we will be the change we want to see in the world!
