Attending a French event is always a special experience and we were all impressed by how much our French has improved since last year.
This week, we had the opportunity to attend the Festival des films put on by our school district and Canadian Parents for French. We all hopped in a bus and headed to the theatre to see "Belle et Sébastien." Many of us found this movie very sad and emotional. It's about a misunderstood wild dog who befriends a young boy in a small mountain village. We discussed it in groups when we got back to class and tried to summarize our understanding in a plot graph. It was through this activity that many of us realized we had missed the World War II context of the film, which explained why the French were trying to provide the Jews with safe passage through the mountains to Switzerland. This is why sharing with each other is so important! Finally, we were able to relate this to what we've learned this term about movie and book critiques. We wrote a short critique of "Belle et Sébastien" on our blogs. Feel free to check out a sample by Aubree here and Blake here.
